President William Ruto has strongly refuted claims made by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who recently accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of engaging in state-sponsored abductions to silence dissent.

“The Ruto regime embarked with shocking familiarity on the practice of abducting our youth just because they expressed their opinions,” Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka stated during a press conference on December 30, 2024.

He specifically referenced the disappearance of social media influencer Maveric Aoko, highlighting the alarming trend of enforced disappearances in Kenya.

Musyoka claimed that the perpetrators, often seen in balaclavas and captured on CCTV, operate with impunity, suggesting that they receive their instructions directly from State House in Nairobi.

In response to this,Ruto’s office dismissed Musyoka’s assertions as baseless and politically driven.

“We do not condone any form of abduction or unlawful detention,” Ruto stated during a press briefing, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of citizens’ rights.

“The government’s priority remains ensuring public safety and maintaining order while upholding democratic principles.”He added.

Ruto also offered to make peace with opposition leaders, including Musyoka, expressing a willingness to engage in dialogue to address political grievances.

“We must work together as leaders to resolve our differences,” he said, signaling his intention to promote unity and collaboration in governance.

Political analysts believe Ruto’s strong denial of the accusation is a move to address the growing criticism of how his government handles dissent. They say Ruto’s response is clearly aimed at safeguarding his administration’s image while ensuring he retains the support of his base.
