The Independent Kenya Woman Awards (IKWA), in partnership with Mrembo Sanitary Pads, the County Government of Turkana and other stakeholders, will spearhead the Education and Dignity Run on August 15, 2026, at the Ekales Centre in Turkana, in a bid to promote education, menstrual health and empowerment among vulnerable children and young people.
The event, themed “Restoring Dignity, Unlocking Potential, Building Brighter Futures,” is expected to bring together athletes, community members, development partners, educators and local leaders in support of initiatives aimed at improving access to education and enhancing the welfare of underserved learners.
The Education and Dignity Run, according to IKWA is seeking to raise awareness and mobilize resources for menstrual hygiene education, the distribution of sanitary pads, mentorship and empowerment programmes, educational support for needy students, community engagement initiatives, and the provision of school supplies and learning materials.
The sporting event will feature track and field competitions including the 100-metre, 400-metre and 3,000-metre races, as well as 4×100-metre and 4×400-metre relay races. A five-kilometre family and institutional fun run has also been organized to encourage wider community participation.
IKWA officials led by the CEO Benard Simento said the initiative is designed to address barriers that continue to affect school attendance and academic performance, particularly among girls and children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Participants will purchase an official event T-shirt at KSh 1,000, with activities scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Ekales Centre.
Organizers expressed optimism that the Education and Dignity Run will strengthen community support for education and social transformation while creating opportunities for vulnerable learners to achieve their full potential.
