Four men escaped death by a whisker, after their Probox was swept away by raging speed waters in Makueni County at River Kyamela in Kalamba.
The four were trying to cross the flooded river on Saturday, April 12 by villagers in a video shared online showed the deadly river swollen to the banks.
The river is dangerous mostly during the raining season, with local leaders constantly urging residents not to risk their lives crossing the river, owing to its previous reported cases of drowning.
The risky actions by the four annoying a section of netizens, who said they are still healing from the tragic Nzui river that claimed 33 lives in 2021.
“Kambas are not serious, we have not yet forgotten the Nziu river tragedy, and they want to take us back again!” Pkelat Plukuimota wrote.
While other directed their anger to the county’s leadership, hitting on leaders focusing on things that do not directly affect the residents, like safety bridges and proper roads that will avert such risky actions from residents.
“Governor Mutua is more concerned about HIV in Homabay instead of building bridges and proper roads for residents,” she stated.
The risk action comes as Kenya Meteorological Department warns of heavy rainfall overl is expected to continue in several parts of the country this weekend.
“Be prepared for isolated heavy rainfall in the following areas: Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, South-eastern Lowlands, Coast Region, North-western and North-eastern Kenya ,” the weatherman warned.
The rainy seasons have began, and the weatherman has warned Kenyans living in flood stricken areas to be cautious, as the long rainy season will intensify with possible floods and flash floods in drought areas.
