Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Thursday January 30 hosted a delegation from the World Bank and the Second Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP II) to review ongoing initiatives aimed at upgrading informal settlements in the county.
The meeting, led by CECM Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Jerome Ochieng, focused on the progress of KISIP 2, a project funded by the World Bank and Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
The initiative seeks to improve infrastructure and living conditions in informal settlements by upgrading roads, drainage systems, water supply, and sanitation facilities.
Governor Nyong’o emphasized the county’s commitment to transforming Kisumu into a prosperous county that serves as a harbor of excellence. He noted that partnerships with organizations like the World Bank are crucial in achieving this vision.
The delegation also outlined plans for site visits and inspections to engage residents affected by the projects., and address their grievances.
Officials from the World Bank, national government, and Kisumu County were present during the discussions. The project is being implemented through collaborative efforts at both national and county levels.
KISIP 2 is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for residents in informal settlements, aligning with the county’s broader development goals.
