Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while speaking during a church service in Nyeri County on Sunday, has asked his MPs to write to the International Criminal Court (ICC) as he has alleged that the government is resurfacing a gang in Mt. Kenya in a move to cause havoc to the people.

He alluded this to former president Moi’s regime, which he claimed ruled with iron fist and punished people severely, particularly those that opposed the government.

“In the late 80s during the reign of President Moi, the government destroyed the economy and became very intolerant and dictatorial. When the people of this region started saying no a criminal gang was formed to come and punish the people,” Gachagua claimed.

Gachagua has claimed that this gang, sponsored by the State has committed heinous acts against humanity and is back to terrorize the people.

“This gang is known to have committed crimes against humanity. Now with the sponsorship of the government, they have come back and for sure they have started,” he continued.

The impeached DP further recounted that this gang killed more than 29 people in Nyeri while raping women in 2009. He noted that the situation was reverted by the then Minister of Interior John Michuki who intervened.

To this regard, Gachagua instructed MPs allied to him, led by Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia to act swiftly, hire lawyers and write to the ICC to probe the matter in order to stabilize the situation.

“Document the atrocities that were committed by the criminal gang in the 90s because those were crimes against humanity and start engaging the ICC,” Gachagua instructed.

Gachagua affirmed that the government will be held accountable for any harm the resurfacing gang will cause to Kenyans, while criticizing President William Ruto over continued abductions of Kenyans. Gachagua empathized with the families whose children have been missing, without trace.
