Rashid Abdalla Super Cup, by Citizen TV’s journalist Rashid Abdalla, could be the hidden treasure and the game changer for the young talented footballers from the coastal region. The just concluded edition brought together more than 800 players across the coastal region, showcasing their talents not only for the cash prizes but also for a bigger stage with a number of football scouts from the country attending.
Denmak FC emerged the champions of the 5th edition after defeating Dumna FC in a penalty shootout. The game ended 1-1 after normal time before Denmak FC clinched the title after a 3:2 win in a tough penalty shootout. The game was played in a fully packed stadium with the champions Denmak winning KES 2M as Dumna walked away with KES 1 million.
Rashid Abdalla Super Cup has been termed as one of the best football tournaments in the country attracting and catching eyes of football lovers not only in the coastal region but also across the country. This year’s edition attracted a number of sponsors who worked in and out for the success of the tournament facilitating its smooth running and delivering the best of the best to the football fraternity.
Shabiki Kenya, a betting platform led the team of sponsors with Ariel , Dreamline Express LTD and Mombasa Cement Limited also ensuring a successful run of the tournament. Jiffy pictures and the Rashid Abdalla foundation both owned by the founder of the cup Rashid Abdalla were also among the sponsors of the just concluded edition of the tournament.
The tournament has seen a 35 member team selected for a number of friendly matches against notable football clubs in the country including the 21 times Kenya premier league champions Gor Mahia. This shows the uniqueness of the tournament and the determination of their founders for the soccer game and the young talented soccer gems who participated in the tournament.
With a number of football tournaments having been played across the country during the festive season, this could be the best news for the soccer community in the country in a quest to uplift the levels of our leagues from the grassroots to the top.
The Rashid Abdalla’s select team played their first match against Bandari FC of Mombasa on December 31, 2025. The Mombasa based club scouted 3 players who will be joining the club on January for trials, all aiming to secure a chance at Bandari which is participating in the top tier FKF Kenyan Premier League.
The three are; Ali Alafu, Jamhui Bahatisha and Joseph Chigamba. This was just but a start for the fortunate young talented men whose dreams could be getting valid.
The second match for the select team will be against Tusker FC tomorrow. The breweries have been at the forefront of scouting young talented footballers across the country in the recent years, with a notable number of players now playing abroad.
The team will later face the bankers of KCB on January 6, 2025 closing the chapter with the Kenyan Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia on January 8 this year. With the premier league set to resume in due course after the short rescheduling pause, notable and familiar faces from just concluded Rashid Abdalla super cup tournament could be seen in the screens bossing the league if all goes well.
