Human rights activist Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity, on Monday, January 13, warned that President Ruto’s political career might end following a petition filed by Kenyans at the International Court of Justice (ICC) against him.
According to a report by Kenyan Post, over 50,000 Kenyans have so far filed a petition against Ruto accusing him of crimes against humanity.
On Sunday 8th, the International Court is reported to have received over 50,000 petitions from Kenyans as surge in government criticism intensifies.
The Hague-based court in a statement stated that it is shocked by the high number of petitions and promised to launch investigations.
The report comes as young Kenyans continue to be abducted for criticizing President William Ruto who is in his third year in office.
Earlier, media sensation Pauline Njoroge reported that ICC had received over 50,000 petitions against Ruto over what was linked to crimes against humanity and genocide.
“ICC reports that it’s alarmed by activities in Kenya as over 50,000 Kenyans launched a complaint about Kenya Kwisha gov’t on their website. “Things are boiling nicely,” Pauline wrote on X.
Former trade unionist Dr Isaac Kinitty who took to his Facebook page, warned that these developments might put an end to President William Ruto’s political career.
Kinity, a vocal human rights activist based in the US linked this to the 2009 Post Election Violence Case where president Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta were key accused and 500 witnesses murdered and evidence withdrawn due to life threats and bribery.
Unlike in 2009 post elections violence case, where Ruto narrowly escaped, Kinity says that Ruto might not succeed in winning such a lawsuit.
“Together with many issues of looting loans, grants, and the taxes collected from Kenyans, it is yet to be seen how William Ruto, who has been identified as the second most corrupt individual person in the world, will sail through.” He said
Kinity’s comments come days after he publicly condemned the surge in abductions which he linked to the state.
Speaking to Vuuka FM on January 2, 2025, Dr. Kinity decried what he termed “State – sanctioned terror ,”calling out the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, for failing to investigate or address the mysterious disappearances.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) reported that at least 82 individuals have been missing since June 2024, with no accountability from authorities. Many victims, accused of creating satirical content criticizing President William Ruto, have been targeted for their expressions of dissent. These actions have been labeled an attempt to silence critics and instill fear among citizens.
Dr. Kinity also made an appeal to for Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) to intervene on the matter after the police failed to address the issue
The rising tide of discontent has attracted international attention. The United States recently voiced concerns over the abductions, with Nairobi Chargé d’Affaires Marc Dillard calling for adherence to the rule of law.
Meanwhile, local human rights groups, such as Kituo Cha Sheria and Mathare Social Justice Center, have petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the enforced disappearances.
