The 13th Eastern Africa University games kicked off officially today on Monday 16th December 2024, with a number of games being played across various venues within and outside the university.

The Maseno soccer team (Siringisi) started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Mzumbe University of Tanzania in an enticing football match played at St Mary’s school Yala. Maseno were trailing 1-0 before equalizing through a penalty kick at the final minutes of the second half. The guests were set for a win before giving away a penalty to the hosts which was converted to a goal helping them secure a point at home turf.

Their second group B match was against Kampala University of Uganda, where they lost to the visitors 1-0 in a hotly contested evening match.

Maseno now has only a point in group B as they await the next match of the group. The hosts will be hoping to win their next fixture to salvage their hopes of qualifying for the next stage.

Athletics will be held at Moi stadium Kisumu as from Tuesday December 17 as more than 500 athletes from various universities will be competing for the medals. On the other hand, swimming has been slated to take place in Kisumu. Other indoor games were held within the university as a mixture of results was registered.

The official opening ceremony of the event will be held tomorrow with a number of notable guests expected to attend the event. The president of the FEAUS is also expected to attend the ceremony with host Vice chancellor Prof Nyabundi also set to attend. A number of events have been put in place including entertainment from the university choir and band.
