Singida FC in Tanzania has issued a 14 day demand notice to Gor Mahia to refund a transfer fee after a failed transfer.
According to a letter dated January 29, 2025, Singida FC claimed that they paid USD 40,000 that is over Kshs. 5 million to Gor Mahia for the transfer of Rooney Onyango after Gor Mahia accepted the offer on January 14, 2024.
However, after receiving the reported payment, Gor Mahia did not release the player to Singida, neither did they initiate a refund of the money if they did not want the player to leave the club.
“Our club wrote to your club on the 3.1.2025 requesting your club to kindly refund the said amount of USD 40,000 since the transfer did not materialize due to your fault. It is unfortunate that to date we have not received any response to our letter neither have we received refund,” read the letter in part.
To this regard, the club has given Gor Mahia a 14-day ultimatum to respect the contract, or the matter will escalate to football governing body, FIFA if they do not refund the amount.
“In the same context, your club is given 14 days within which to pay all the outstanding balances of USD 40,000. Failure to do so, our club will refer the matter to FIFA for breach of contract,” Singida FC warned.
However, Gor Mahia through the chairman Ambrose Rachier adjured the claims, confirming that he is not aware of such speculations by Singida FC.
“I’m not aware of any deal between Rooney and Singida. Neither Rooney nor Singida has contacted my office in regard to any transfer deal,’’ said Rachier.
Rachier termed Singida’s allegations as malicious, saying that there is no transaction that occured between the two clubs.
“This is news to me. We have not received any money from Singida and allegations that we are under pressure to return their money is malicious,” he added.
Rooney Onyango has been a pillar to Gor Mahia’s defence after he joined the club on 2022.
