Gor Mahia to Face Yanga in Siaya, Governor James Orengo Announces

Kenya’s Gor Mahia is scheduled to take on Tanzania’s counterpart YANGA FC, in an international friendly at the recently unveiled historic Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya County on February 22, 2025.

Confirming the match, Siaya Governor James Orengo said that Yanga which did not get time to visit the country on January 2, 2024 during the inauguration of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga stadium, due to their match against TP Mazembe will now be ready to face Gor Mahia in the highly anticipated game.

“The most successful club in Tanzanian football history Yanga FC will square it out with the Kenyan giants, the Mighty Gor Mahia, K’Ogallo Sirkal at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium on the 22nd February, 2025,” announced Orengo.

“Yanga FC could not make it to Siaya County for the official launch of the stadium on the 2nd January, 2025 because of a CAF Champions League game against TP Mazembe on the 4th January, 2025 but thankfully we now have a convenient date,” added the Governor .

Orengo expressed his heartfelt gratitude for having the two giant clubs accept his invitation to showcase their football prowess in Siaya.

“I thank both teams for accepting our gracious invitation and invite all of you to the great County of Siaya to watch his historic, iconic and mouthwatering game of football,” said Orengo.

The football match which is anticipated to be attended by tens of thousands of fans of both teams is also expected to be viewed by millions of their fans across the length and breadth of East Africa and beyond.

In local premier league derby, the duo soccer giants are synonymous with cult-like fanatical bases which have perennially thrust their playing credentials to the highest local soccer cauldron.
