Governor Anyang Nyong’o Leads as Kisumu Hosts 4th AfSNET Conference

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o  opened the 4th AfSNET summit where he hosted visitors from within Kenya and broad as Kisumu City honoured the 4th AfSNET summit.

The African Sub-Sovereign Network (AfSNET) Conference was launched today at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel and expected to end on November 27, 2024. This event is organized by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), along with the County Government of Kisumu and United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA).

While talking to the press Governor Nyong’o described the conference as a great moment for Kisumu to show the world what it owns, in order to attract both local and foreign investment, in a bid to develop itself.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for Kisumu to shine on the global map, showcasing its investment potential and positioning itself as a hub for trade and sustainable development,” said Governor Nyong’o.

He said that this event will be marked by fruitful insights which aim to positively impact Africans.

“ Kisumu eagerly anticipates a highly productive 4th African Sub-Sovereign Network Conference (AFSNET) as we advance Africa’s economic development through the empowerment of Sub-Sovereign governments,” notified the Governor.

Distinguished leaders in the summit are H.E. Kanayo Awani (Executive Vice President, Afreximbank), Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi (Secretary General, UCLGA), Kayode Fayemi (FORAF, UCLGA Africa), Thiemo Habib Hann (Shelter Afrique Development Bank), among others as more are also expected to join as the summit continues.

The theme of the event is “Leveraging the AfCFTA for Sustainable Trade and Investment: A Development Pathway for African Sub-Sovereigns.”

It aims to foster discussions on intra-African trade, investment, and sustainable development under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

President William Samoei Ruto will officially open the conference tomorrow, with attendees from around the world. Visitors are also encouraged to explore Kisumu’s attractions, with assurances of safety from the host Governor.

President Ruto’s presents shows the importance of the event, which is expected to drive impactful conversations about advancing regional trade and creating opportunities for economic growth. Organizers, including Afreximbank and the County Government of Kisumu, expect a strong turnout of leaders and investors from across the continent.

The event will feature important addresses, panel discussions, and networking sessions, providing a platform for African sub-sovereigns to collaborate, share best practices, and attract investment to their regions.

With registration now open, attendees are encouraged to secure their spots to be part of this transformative dialogue, shaping Africa’s economic future.
