“Money Still Controls You,” Outspoken Lawyer Openly Tells High Court, Senate

Popular and experienced lawyer, John Khaminwa has courageously exposed how money manipulates the Parliament and the Senate, hence jeopardising their independence.

Speaking before the High Court while defending impeached Rigathi Gachagua, Khaminwa was also worried that money has as well compromised the sovereignty of the Judiciary.

“We are a corrupt country and money still controls Parliament and the Senate. Let it not be said it controls the judiciary too. I have lived long enough to know that when you hear a rumour, do not be small minded and dismiss it quickly; it normally has some truth,” he affirmed.

Former Attorney General, Prof Githu Muigai, however, confirmed that impeachment is a political process.

He asserted that the impeachment process of DP Rigathi Gachagua was done in a political chamber , that is the Senate, which he claimed sits as a political body. He argued that the court has no power to conduct or rule over this kind of impeachment, which he calls a special impeachment.

“The impeachment process is a political process and that it why it goes to a political chamber; Senate sits as a political body,” Githu told the High Court.

Supporting Khaminwa’s statement, lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi has been roughly attacking the Judiciary over being manipulated by brown envelops, calling the Kenya judicial system JurisPesa.

These assertions come amidst the impeachment case involving Gachagua and the Senate, after conservatory orders by issued.

The orders stopped the reinstatement of Prof. Kithure Kindiki as the next DP, awaiting court judgement. The case is yet to be decided.
