Youth leaders drawn from various counties on Friday, December 20, 2024, declared their support for Kenya’s legendary human rights activist, Dr. Newton Kinnity.
Addressing the press in Migori, the youth leaders stated that Dr. Kinnity is the only person capable of turning around Kenya’s economy and addressing the decades-long challenges facing Kenyans.
Alvin Ouma Onyango, Secretary General of the Kisumu Tertiary Institution Students’ Association, voiced the sentiments of many, stating that they are tired of following popular leaders who fail to fight for their rights.
“The current situation in Kenya is unbearable, and there’s an urgent need for a leader who can rescue the country from this harsh reality. That leader is Dr. Newton,” the group said in a statement.
Onyango notes that they are tired of following popular leaders who make empty promises and fail to fight for their rights.
“The current situation in Kenya is unbearable, and we need a leader who can rescue us. Dr. Newton is that leader,” said Onyango.
The youth highlighted Dr. Newton’s track record of advocating for Kenyans, even at great personal risk with many pointing to his daring efforts to tackle social injustices and corruption, both in Kenya and abroad, as evidence of his commitment to the country.
His reputation as a reformist and patriot has resonated strongly with young people who are disillusioned with the current leadership.
Stephen Kioko, a student leader from Machakos County, expressed frustration with the political status quo, noting that the time is right for Kenyans to chart a new path.
“We are tired of recycled leaders who have brought Kenya to its knees. It is time for a fresh, honest, and capable leader. Dr. Newton is the only one who can eliminate corruption, end tribalism, and recover stolen public funds,” Kioko said.
The movement insists that Kenya deserves better leadership. They accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of perpetuating poverty, unemployment, and social inequality.
They have called on youths to rise to the occasion and embrace a leadership that is people-centric and one that prioritizes the affairs of the youth. They believe this leadership can be offered by Dr. Newton, who they are confident can transform the nation by prioritizing integrity, accountability, and national unity.
Dr. Kinnity is a former Secretary General of the Kenya Civil Servants Union and a current member of the Presidential Advisory Board of the Republican National Committee, USA.
Historically, he is remembered for being one of the youthful human rights activists who dared former President Daniel Moi.
The vibrant activist has on several occasions criticized President Ruto and his government for human rights violations, unpopular policies, and high levels of corruption in the country.
