Shanderema Set to Defend their Title in Amadi Tournamentt

The reigning champions of the annual Amadi Open Tournament Shanderema Secondary, will be participating in this year’s edition aiming to defend their title.

Speaking to The Nyanza Review, Caleb Olang’o, the Director of Sports at Maseno School confirmed that almost all the reigning champions across various disciplines have confirmed to participate.

A number of schools and clubs have already registered their interest of participating with the tournament set to kick from February 1, 2025 to February 2, 2025. The tournament will be held at Maseno School grounds, Maseno University, Chulaimbo Secondary, Ebusakami primary school, Maseno Vocational Training College and Mumboha stadium in Luanda.

The tournament will use 11 pitches available within Maseno.

The rugby 15’s reigning champions Butula Boys will also be participating as they prepare for the term 2 rugby games.

The director has assured that this year’s rugby games will be highly competitive as major powerhouse of rugby across western and the country at large will be competing.

Other games include Volleyball, handball, basketball and indoor games. Cross country will also be conducted on the last day of the tournament at Maseno mixed school.

The tournament is set to involve the Junior Secondary Schools for the first time as the schools continue to adapt and integrate into the new curriculum of education.

“We will also be having Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) for the first time. As the new curriculum continue to shape next year, we are trying to induct them into the system,” said Mr Olang’o.

Olang’o has also warned football fans against interfering with the games and causing chaos, citing that measures have been put in place to curb such menace and this behavior will not be tolerated. He said this referring to the ordeal that happened in the previous edition in a game between St Anthony’s and Katolo secondary where fans invaded the pitch forcing the penalties to be taken at Ebusakami grounds.

“Our officials will be on ground to follow up every action. Any form of indiscipline from the fans will not be accepted. This tournament is highly honoured and respected. Amadi Tournament is an established brand. If the finals are not played that marks the end of the tournament. We should be responsible,” he added.

With various open tournaments already held and other’s anticipating, the tournament remains to be one of the most prominent tournament in the country and serves as preparation for the term 2 Kenya Secondary School games.
