Lawyer John Khaminwa representing impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at the High Court has warned of impending repercussions should the court lift the conservatory orders.
The legal specialist claimed that Rigathi Gachagua has 70 per cent sympathy votes of Kenyans and this is enough to bring political instability if the ruling of the Senate is upheld – impeaching Gachagua.
In order for Kenya to be as united as it is supposed to be, the lawyer asserted that Prof. Kithure Kindiki should not assume office as the DP.
“Currently, the poll rating of our DP is 70% in the country. He has won a lot of sympathy votes from those who didn’t even like him. It will be devastating for this court to proceed and lift the conservatory order and bring in Prof Kindiki as DP.’’
“I don’t know much about Prof Kindiki, I have nothing against him, he has never wronged me and I don’t think he has ever said anything anywhere against me. All that we are interested in at the moment is to make sure that we have one country,” added the Senior Counsel.
Khaminwa also reiterated that the same people who are pushing for Rigathi Gachagua’s ouster will be the same people to do so for President William Ruto.
In reference to the chaos that might interrupt due to this, he strongly urged the court not to lift the orders that will see Gachagua go and Kindiki enter into the office of the Deputy President.
“Those who want the DP out, let us assume he is kicked out. They will be the same people who will come and say President Ruto you must go. That will be opening chaos in the country. My lords, I am saying to you very respectfully, please do not try to lift the conservatory order as my learned friends are asking for.’’
He went further arguing that despite Ruto and Gachagua not being in good relationship, they can still work together for the sake of peace.
“It is evident that the impeached DP and the President are not getting along but you do not have to be friends to work together. To have a relationship, you do not have to be friends at all,” Khaminwa stated.
The lawyer departed from the court, saying that he has other responsibilities to attend to.
He has practiced law four over four decades.
