More than 9,000 candidates from Kisumu West constituency in Kisumu County are prepared to sit for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams.
According to Kisumu West Director of Education Mary Oichoe, a total of 9,932 candidates will participate this year.
Of these, 4,636 candidates, comprising 2,424 boys and 2,212 girls, will take the KCSE exams, while 5,296 candidates, including 2,711 boys and 2,585 girls from over 100 primary schools in the sub-county, will sit for the KPSEA exams.
Maseno School, which achieved the highest mean score of 9.5382 in the 2023 KCSE exams, has registered the largest number of candidates this year, with 680 students. Other secondary schools presenting over 100 candidates for the KCSE include Kanyamedha, Chulaimbo, Kisian, Obambo, Bar-Union, and Dago Kokore.
Sinyolo Girls and Chulaimbo Boys also performed well in the previous KCSE ranking, achieving mean scores of 6.1990 and 6.1724, respectively.
Mary Oichoe emphasized that effective measures have been implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of both exams this year.
