The Komboa Jamii Initiative, a newly launched non-profit organization in Apate, West Alego, is gearing up for a major event this December aimed at empowering the youth of Alego Usonga. The initiative, which focuses on education, health and wellness, livelihood and economic empowerment, and environmental conservation, is set to bring together over 500 young people from across the region.

In an exclusive interview with The Nyanza Review from their office in Apate market along Boro – Hawinga Road, Mr. Mark Opondo, the director of the organization, said that the event, scheduled for December 12, 2024, will feature a series of motivational talks and skill-building sessions, with distinguished guest speakers sharing their expertise to inspire the next generation of leaders.

“The goal of the event is to equip youths with the necessary tools to drive positive change within their communities and prepare them for a future of sustainable growth,” Opondo noted.

The upcoming mega event, which is expected to attract a diverse group of youths, will also include vocational training, employability workshops, and sessions on climate change and environmental conservation, reinforcing the initiative’s focus on building resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

However, the organization is calling on local businesses, organizations, and individuals to support the event through contributions. Specifically, they are seeking donations to cover the costs of refreshments for attendees and guest speakers, as well as funding for a tent and public address system to ensure the event runs smoothly.

“The support from the community and local businesses is crucial to the success of this event. Your contribution will not only help make this event possible but will also go a long way in empowering our youths and helping them shape a brighter future for Alego Usonga,” said Mr. Opondo.

Komboa Jamii Initiative’s core mission is to uplift vulnerable communities, particularly women, youth, and marginalized groups, by fostering inclusive economic growth and promoting social justice. Through its various programs, the organization works to address pressing issues such as sexual and reproductive health, mental health, gender-based violence, and environmental sustainability.

The initiative has also highlighted several key programs aimed at improving lives in the region, including Smiles and Supplies, which provides hygiene kits to students and teen mothers to promote school attendance and self-esteem; Sanitation for Sustainability, a program addressing open defecation and improving water quality; and Tech4All, which offers computer training to youth and teen mothers, bridging the digital divide and enhancing employability.

Komboa Jamii Initiative invites interested parties to support the event, volunteer, or partner with the organization in its efforts to build resilient, empowered communities in Siaya County.

Contributions towards the event can be made through Lipa na Mpesa: Paybill number 247247 and account number 0716451593, account name Komboa Jamii Initiative. The organization can be reached via phone at 0704 045 201 / 0706 815570 or email komboajamiiinitiative@gmail.com.

The Komboa Jamii Initiative is confident that with community support, this event will mark a transformative moment in the lives of many youths in Alego Usonga, paving the way for future growth and development across Alego Usonga Sub-County and, by extension, Siaya County.
