Seventeen needy students from Kisumu West constituency in Kisumu county have every reason to wear a smile on their faces after being offered full scholarships by a charitable non governmental organization operating in the area.
The NGO, Kisumu West Aid CBO headed by its founder Joshua Oliech has gained a lot of reputation for bringing hope and honor to the majority of needy students in Kisumu West through its elaborate support programmes.
During a one on one with The Nyanza Review on Saturday the 19th of October 2024 held at the organization’s Kisumu West premises, Mr Kennedy Oloo, the Head of Programs who represented founder Joshua Oliech emphasized that the key aims and objectives of the charitable organization is purely to ensure that all needy students from their areas of operations which includes Seme, Kisumu West and part of Siaya county are provided with access to education.
Oloo added that through the provision of access to education which he noted was the pillar of foundation that would pave the way for a long term change, the organization was determined to utilize every resources at its disposal to ensure that the next crop of generation are fully loaded with the knowledge and skills that would eventually improve on their livelihood through a compressive education interventions.
“Our NGO is promoting access to a quality standard of education we wholly believe would eventually lead to better employment opportunities. For that reason, we have given full education scholarships to 17 needy students in Kisumu West constituency,” said the head of Programs.
He at the same time said that the charitable organization, under a program baptized ‘KeepHERsmiling’ has been providing sanitary pads to school going adolescent schoolgirls on a monthly basis based on their needs.
“At the moment, our organization has so far issued out sanitary pads to 1170 teenage school girls drawn from 13 primary schools in Kisumu West,” said Oloo.
He.also said that the NGO has trained more than 4200 youth in digital literacy as well as online marketing, empowering over 2700 youth in sexual reproductive health, drugs and substance abuse, leadership and gender based violence.
“In order to ensure that all needy students in the sub county have access to education, the NGO occasionally allocates more funds in its budget kitty,” he said.
