Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division Two club Karapul Villa FC is appealing for financial support to run its activities.
Speaking to The Nyanza Review on Monday 6th, the club’s chairman Robert Ouma said that the club is faced with huge financial gaps that is making it almost impossible to take part in the league matches.
“We currently do not have sponsors. We fully depend on well – wishers to source funds to help the team play. At the moment, we’re in a financial crisis.” Ouma said
The club, which began its journey in 2012, has steadily risen through the ranks and is now competing in the national tier for the first time.
Despite its impressive achievements, Karapul Villa is grappling with financial constraints that threaten its ability to maintain its position in the league.
The team, according to Mr. Ouma, has provided significant benefits to the local youth, including exposure of talent, access to education scholarships and opportunities to play in higher-tier leagues.
The club has also kept young people engaged, reducing cases of school dropouts, juvenile offenses and drug abuse.
However, Ouma says financial challenges have hampered the club’s performance. He cites lack of funds for food, transport, allowances and hiring qualified coaches as major setbacks. The team has also faced logistical delays in honoring fixtures, affecting their mental preparedness and overall performance.
They require at least Ksh 644,000 to cover food, transport, match fees, security, first aid and administrative costs for the remaining 18 matches of the season.
The club has also called on the County Government of Siaya, the national government, corporate sponsors and well-wishers to assist.
Plans are underway to engage in income-generating activities and establish partnerships with faith-based organizations to ensure sustainability, the club has said.
Additionally, they intend to use the newly opened Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium for home matches and charge gate fees as a source of revenue.
