Former Kiminini lawmaker Chris Wamalwa, has refuted claims of vying for Trans Nzoia county senator in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview with a local radio station, Wamalwa said he is not eying the race, but determined to unseat the incumbent governor, George Natembeya, former Rift Valley Region Commissioner.
“The ongoing romours about going for the senate’s seat is propaganda. When Natembeya won, I extended my goodwill message to him, and supported him in delivering to the people of Tran Nzoia. I will be on the ballot with him come 20227,” Wamalwa stated.
Wamalwa was a close opponent of Natembeya in the August 2022 race, FORD Kenya candidate under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, and came in second position garnering 79,020 votes against Natembeya who vied under DAP-K winning with 158,919 votes.
Before taking a low profile in politics and from the public, Wamalwa was nominated by President William Ruto as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), water sanitation and irrigation, which was later declared null and void by the High Court.
He made a public appearance in the county after months at a burial in Saboti ward, where he received a warm welcome from the resident.
Despite their differences in political outfits, the two have however, maintained a relation. In July, Wamalwa and Natembeya were seen enjoying a cordial moment with retired Bishop Maurice Anthony Crawley.
The political wave in Trans Nzoia have been shifting following recent notions, with political analysists in the county terming Wamalwa of having an upper hand, as he did not interfere with leadership of George Natembeya.
In November, despite his efforts to woe the Members of County Assembly (MCA) not to impeach his two County executive officers, the county assembly went ahead and impeached the county secretary Trufosa Amere, Gender Executive Stanley Kirui and Janerose Mutama of Lands.
