Residents of Kisumu on Wednesday, 23rd, 2024 expressed concerns over the increasing insecurity in the area. This shortly comes after a middle aged woman was found murdered in Kisumu today.
Led by Mr. Sospeter Obungu, the President of the Kisumu Bunge la Wanainchi caucus, they urged the government to act swiftly before the situation worsens.
In a press address, Mr. Obungu highlighted that the town has been troubled by rampant insecurity, with residents facing severe threats, including killings, assaults on women, and theft of property. He emphasized that police officers should have meetings with residents to find ways for tackling insecurity.
Additionally, he proposed the introduction of police patrols and stressed the importance of the county government installing streetlights in essential areas to improve safety.
Pamella, a businesswoman in the town, mentioned that insecurity has affected businesses, as individuals face attacks both on their way to work and at their workplaces, leaving them in fear.

While speaking to The Nyanza Review, Peter Mulai, the OCPD of Kisumu Central, acknowledged receiving reports of phone thefts and attacks among other incidents. He assured that these issues are being addressed and encouraged collaboration between the Indian Community, residents and the police officers to help manage and resolve these challenges.
