Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has expressed alarm over reports of local leaders allegedly inciting the business community to resist remitting taxes. During a recent address, Arati appealed to traders, transporters, boda boda operators, and all business operators to fulfill their revenue obligations as outlined in the county Finance Bill.

“We have noticed some leaders encouraging the public to avoid paying taxes. This has contributed to our below-average revenue collection this financial year, especially as we enter the last quarter,” Arati stated.

He specifically addressed boda boda riders, reminding them that stickers, which are essential for their operations, must be paid for starting Wednesday. The cost is set at Ksh. 300 monthly or Ksh. 2,000 annually.

“Paying tax is not just a civic duty; it is a legal obligation that everyone must meet on time,” Arati emphasized. He assured the public that the county government is implementing measures to ensure transparent and accountable collection of tax revenues.

The governor’s remarks highlight the critical need for financial compliance as the county seeks to bolster its revenue streams in a challenging economic climate.
