American mogul and rapper, Sean Diddy Combs, who was arrested and charged on sex trafficking and sex assaults grounds the previous year, might have his trial hitting a roadblock after the third key witness failed to show up in court as scheduled.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey, the prosecution team has lost communication with the witness or victim 3 and cannot locate her.
Reports from TMZ reports says that Victim no.3 identified by the name Jane Doe never worked with the prosecutors, and she did not want to testify.
Entertainment lawyer Tre Lovell explained that to have only 3-4 victims testifying against allegations of a two-decades long criminality is ironical.
“If the witness doesn’t show, that might be a problem. Although the government will have other witnesses like staff workers and Diddy’s associates to testify, the victims still remain the most important and influential on the stand.” He said
Attorney John perlstein also reiterated on the same. He said that disappearance of a key victim is crippling for the case. However, he also argued that the disappearance of the witness should not impact the case’ other counts.
“Even though it will severely impact the one relating to the AWOL victim, In most cases people usually reconsider being involved in such high profile matters, and good prosecutors should adapt, their case is not dependent on the cooperation of one person.” He said
Additionally, Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, who is also one of his accussers is expected to take the stand as early as Monday. Cassie who is being reffered to as Victim no. 1 , but agreed to testify using her name pressed charges against Diddy on grounds of physical assault, and coercion into having sex with male prostitutes.
Cassie was in a relationship with Combs for 11 years, that is from 2007-2018, and one of the most eye-catching evidence is the viral hotel surveillance footage in 2016 which shows Combs, grabbing, kicking and dragging Cassie.
Despite all these allegations, Comb’s lawyers have maintained their ground saying that the offender is not guilty.
“We are going to take the position that there was mutual violence in their relationship. There was hitting on both sides and we’re probably going to refer to it as domestic violence.” Marc Agnifillo said in court on Friday.
Also, the defendant has pleaded not guilty to all the charges pressed against him which include; racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation of victims to engage in prostitution.
Combs is also accused of running a criminal enterprise through his businesses which include Bad Boy Entertainment, Combs Enterprise and Combs Global among others.
The Prosecutors claim that Combs used his fame and power to sexually abuse women from 2004-2024, in some rare cases, he even abused men
The Imputation entails description of “Freak offs” drugged up in orgies, where women were compelled into having sex with male sex workers as Combs filmed them. The charges also show him being aggressive with some of his victims
If Combs is found guilty to the charges, then he is bound to face a lifetime imprisonment.
