Nairobi City County’s Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has taken a lighthearted swipe at embattled businessman Khalif Kairo, whose legal troubles have intensified over undelivered vehicles linked to his company, Kai and Karo.
In a video circulating online, Mosiria cautioned young men against the pitfalls of living beyond their means to impress romantic partners, warning that the pressure to project an affluent lifestyle has driven many into financial ruin or even crime.
Reflecting on Kairo’s once-lavish lifestyle, Mosiria admitted he had been intrigued by the entrepreneur’s extravagant displays, particularly his first-class flights and luxurious gifts for his girlfriends.
“I was impressed by his soft life,” Mosiria remarked, adding that while Kairo jetted off in private planes, he himself couldn’t afford a premium ticket on the Nairobi-Mombasa route.
Mosiria lamented that the obsession with wealth and public displays of affluence has misled many young men into reckless financial decisions in a bid to maintain an illusion of success. He expressed shock at Kairo’s current predicament, noting that the businessman, once known for his opulence, is now reportedly seeking donations after his arrest for allegedly failing to deliver vehicles paid for by clients.
“The humbling events in Kairo’s life must have taught him a lesson about living within his means,” Mosiria said.
Urging financial discipline and hard work, the county official emphasized that wealth accumulation is a gradual process, not an overnight achievement.
“People work hard. You don’t just wake up and become rich. It’s a process,” he advised.
“Let’s inspire each other to work hard. Do not spend money you haven’t earned. Don’t try to strike it rich overnight just to maintain a flashy lifestyle while your rural home remains in a deplorable state. Live within your means,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kairo’s girlfriend, Wavinya Maria, a former Miss World Kenya, has erased all traces of their relationship from her Instagram account, sparking speculation on social media.
Wavinya, who boasts a significant online following, has remained tight-lipped on the controversy. The woman once whisked away on extravagant trips and showered with expensive gifts now appears to have distanced herself from the embattled businessman, who previously defended her against allegations of ties to Chinese tycoon Mr. Wang.
As Kairo navigates his legal battles, his fall from grace continues to dominate public discourse, serving as a cautionary tale on the perils of unchecked ambition and financial recklessness.
