“Keep Off Party Politics,” Busia Residents, Leaders Urged

The Principal Administrative Secretary ( PAS) in the Executive office of the President, Arthur Osiya has urged the residents of Busia County to keep off party politics but instead elect leaders who are committed to the provision of quality services to the people.

Osiya, who was speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Amagoro in Teso North Sub County on Monday  cautioned the residents of Busia against being cheated that the broad based government is bad.

He urged leaders to engage in activities that touch peoples’ lives to gain the confidence of county residents so as to guarantee their re-election in subsequent elections.

He cautioned leaders against engaging in party politics he noted was most likely to divide the people along ethnic line.

He added that what mattered most was development regardless of which political outfit an elected leader used.

“Too much politics is disastrous, so I would wish to appeal to leaders to avoid too much party politics,” he said.

In the meeting , various leaders wrote a memorandum to the government through the PAS that was read by former Malaba Central Member of the County Assembly Ishmael Orodi. The elders requested for the construction of a Teachers Training College in Amagoro to create employment and reap from other economies of scale.

The elders also urged the government to create employment opportunities for the youth, create Angurai and Amagoro Sub counties, and facilitate the creation of Teso County.

The business community also urged the government to establish a subsidiary of Chamasiri Teachers Training Institute to establish a subsidiary in Amagoro, which is the sub county headquarters, to facilitate youth training and help in job creation.

Otwane; a youth leader and a member of a public accounts committee also challenged the county government of Busia through MCAs, which recently undertook rehabilitation of 15km of roads in each of the 35 wards to ensure that the same roads are in murram to guarantee sustainability.

Women representatives, Joyce Emukule said water scarcity was the main challenge, bedeviling them, urging the government to assist in availing it to avoid women from long treks in search of this vital commodity.

MCA aspirant for Malaba Central Ward, Simon Oruchum said the best thing for a vibrant county was the institutionalization of infrastructure.

Former Malaba Central MCA Benard Papa also during the forum said the president William Ruto commissioned the Ksh1.3b Malakisi water project with no benefits to residents, calling for its expedisation.

“My main appeal to the president is to extend last mile connectivity from Malakisi-Amagoro, which passes through the same Amagoro, to solve the unending scenario of water scarcity,” he said.
