Kisumu West Constituency Member of Parliament Rosa Buyu has pledged to continue supporting education in the constituency.

Speaking during a public participation forum at Rainbow chiefs camp, the lawmaker said that her office has issued a total of KSh 140 million in bursary funds to support needy students over the past two years

Buyu highlighted education and security as top priorities for the NG-CDF committee in the 2024-2025 financial year.

The lawmaker, who serves as the NG-CDF patron, assured education stakeholders that she would work to ensure all public primary and secondary schools in the constituency receive modern classrooms, adequate toilets, and improved laboratory facilities.

Despite the NG-CDF bursary allocations of KSh 5,000 for day secondary students, KSh 6,000 for boarders, and KSh 12,000 for university students, many parents have expressed concerns over the insufficiency of the funding amid rising economic challenges.

When The Nyanza Review reached out to the lawmaker to respond to the concerns raised by the parents, Buyu cautioned that increasing the bursary amounts could limit the number of students who receive support, potentially leaving many without access to education. However, she promised the committee would review the bursary allocations in the future.
