In Kisumu Central location, Kisumu West Sub County, local authorities have issued a stern warning against the continuation of disco matanga events during the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams. Area chief Simon Osege expressed deep concern about the negative impact these gatherings could have on students’ focus and overall security in the region. With candidates currently sitting for their exams, the ban aims to ensure a conducive environment for study and reduce distractions that may hinder academic performance.
In an interview with The Nyanza Review, Chief Osege emphasized that the ban was necessary not only for the benefit of the students but also to enhance community safety. “Disco matanga has become a major threat to security in the locality,” he stated, highlighting instances of unrest and crime associated with such events. He noted that the presence of these gatherings could tempt students to attend, leading to confusion and poor performance on their exams.
He reiterated, “I would like to emphasize once again that disco matanga has been banned in Kisumu Central location to give the candidates adequate time and, more importantly, a conducive environment to concentrate on their revision ahead of the remaining papers.” He urged assistant chiefs Korando A and B to strictly enforce this directive, ensuring that the community complies.

Additionally, Chief Osege called upon local residents to remain vigilant, citing a recent uptick in insecurity linked to unidentified criminal elements in the area. “Security starts with you, so ensure you refrain from engaging in criminal acts,” he warned, stressing that those who disrupt the peace would face legal consequences.
