The Kisumu West Association CBO, established nine years ago, is making significant strides in improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Kisumu West constituency and parts of Siaya County. Positioned as a dynamic force for change, the organization is dedicated to empowering marginalized communities through innovative solutions that tackle critical issues in health, poverty, education, and social inclusion.

Kennedy Oloo, the organization’s head of programs, emphasized its mission during a recent interview with The Nyanza Review at their Otonglo offices. “Kisumu West Aid CBO is committed to alleviating suffering and nurturing sustainable development, restoring hope in the lives of underserved individuals, regardless of age, gender, religion, or ability,” Oloo stated.

The CBO’s core values focus on addressing overlapping social issues while ensuring all voices are heard and valued. Its objectives include providing immediate relief and long-term solutions for health and poverty challenges, promoting educational access, fostering social inclusion, encouraging sustainable practices, and restoring dignity to marginalized communities.

Key initiatives include household economic strengthening, educational support, environmental stability, food security, and health promotion. Oloo noted that empowering households economically is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty, leading to more resilient communities.

Since 2019, Kisumu West Aid CBO has partnered with various regional and local organizations, incubating over twenty self-help groups, youth groups, and women-led initiatives.

The organization has facilitated medical care for over 36 women from local widow groups and collaborated with the Kisumu Network for Women Using Drugs on mental rehabilitation programs. Additionally, they have provided medical essentials and psycho-social support to 30 disabled children and promoted projects like rabbit rearing and poultry farming to enhance food security and economic stability.

With a clear vision for a sustainably empowered society, the organization continues to be a transformative force in Kisumu West and beyond.
