President William Ruto on Tuesday November 12,2024 appointed Gerald Nyaoma Arita as CBK deputy Governor.
Ruto through the Felix Koskei, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, released a public notice on the nominees for various key positions, including the Central Bank of Kenya deputy governor
Mr. Gerald Arita Nyaoma, the nominee for Central Bank deputy Governor has had 36 years of experience in various positions since joining the CBK in 1988. He was working as the Director of Bank Supervision Department (BSD) before his appointment to the deputy governor’s position
Nyaoma who hails from Kisii county was picked from a list of six finalists who were interviewed by the Public Service Commission (PSC), as announced earlier in October 2024 and becomes the CBK’s second deputy Governor
He has vast experience working in the CBK since 1988, having previously held various critical roles within the CBK, including Director of the Bank Supervision Department, Director of Financial Markets Development, and Acting Director of the Internal Audit Department, among others.
Prior to his appointment, he was serving as the Director of the Bank Supervision Department (BSD) before his appointment to the deputy governor’s position.
The head of public service outlined Nyaoma’s impressive academic credentials including a Master of Philosophy (Economics) degree from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with First Class Honors from the University of Nairobi. Additionally, he is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K), a Certified Secretary (CS), and an Associate of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (AKIB).
Nyaoma will now serve as the second deputy governor of the CBK alongside Susan Koech, who was appointed to deputize Kamau Thugge in 2023.
