West Pokot county was on the wrong side of social media on Wednesday, April 9, after a viral photo a seemingly sick woman receiving treatment under a tree.
In a post by West Pokot News, which showed a dire state of allegedly Timorwo Dispensary in Betai Ward in Pokot South.
The woman seen in the photo is laying down with her drip medication hanged on a tree; angered netizens, who were shocked of such conditions, despite constant calls by Kenya Kwanza government on better healthcare for citizens.
Dominic Pkoroi said he was not in shock, with the situation, as it was expected to happen.
“Timorwo in Batei Ward, are we shocked? We shouldn’t! We expected this. Kudos to the nurse,” he wrote.
David Toddo, however, was disappointed by the seating Member of County Assembly (MCA), calling on the county government to check in, and provide better services to the residents.
“It’s unfortunate to the seating MCA and the county government of West Pokot. Let them help the people,” he expressed his disappointment.
However, some lauded the doctors for saving the patient with the available resources, stating that the place is warm, and could be a contributor to why the patient resorted to settling outside.
“The place is warm, also it is a proof that medicine is available and the personnel are very competent to save lives using the available materials,” Kemoi Jscob wrote.
Kemoi’s sentiments were echoed by Omusugu Kalisto, who said that it was better as something positive was in course, as many county hospitals have facilities with constant cries of lack of medicine.
“The best thing is normal saline is running! Better outside with drugs, than in the ward without drugs!” Kalisto wrote.
In the recent days, the health sector in the country has been struggling, with three reshuffles since President William Ruto took office. The current Cabinet Secretary (CS), Aden Duale, promising reforms in the sector, including the contentious health insurance Social Health Authority (SHA).
On Tuesday 8, At least six people lost their lives following the ongoing cholera outbreak in Kenya, with 97 confirmed cases reported across various health facilities, according to the Ministry of Health.
