Suna East MP hopeful, Eng. Victor Okuna has criticised the area MP, Hon. Junet Mohamed over a tournament organised within the vicinity.
Okuna dismissed the idea of having the constituency’s tournament played in Migori stadium, citing huge funds that will be involved by the teams coming from far places. Analysing his facts, the MP aspirant established that it will take clubs coming from Ogwedhi and Nyarongi more than Kshs, 20,000 to carter for logistics for 3 days, while there is no assurance of bagging the crown.
“Let’s be realistic. A play offs for constituency tournament is played in Stadium. Teams as far as Ogwedhi and Nyarongi are expected to travel for the 4 matches in town, and cost of transport may go past 20k for 3 days,” underscored Okuna, adding, ”If you are eliminated at the preliminaries, it’s a huge loss.”
Besides, he deterred Junet’s planning, which doesn’t not align to the basis of conducting such tournaments, despite being in office for over 12 years. He appended that the venue identified for the event, will propel other clubs not to attend.
“12 years, they can’t even know that basic planning of constituency tournament starts from ward level, and we are here clapping. I’m sure a number of good players from Kwa ward won’t manage to travel to Migori coz of lack of transport,” he noted.
However, the aspirant confirmed that he is going to sponsor Ogwedhi football club, to avail its players to the competition.
In this regard, Okuna is pushing for change, with an aim of unseating Junet Mohamed, whom he trashes his administration.
“We have to change ways of doing things in Suna East. We must speak out for better leadership,” Okuna affirmed.
Yesterday, Junet officially launched the tournament that has been running from December 18, 2024, as finals expected to be played on January 1, 2025.
He remarked that it aims at fostering community engagement, promotion of social activities and support other local initiatives.
