Uhuru’s Confidants Join Ruto’s Cabinet a Week after Gatundu Meeting

President William Ruto has made changes within his cabinet and Senior ranks within the Executive.

He has nominated Cabinet Secretary for Sports Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen as the CS for Interior, after the post was left vacant by Prof. Kithure Kindiki who was appointed the Deputy President, following the unceremonious impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.

Murkomen will now be in charge of the Interior docket that was under Prime Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi in an acting capacity.

The President also nominated former CS for Health, Mutahi Kagwe as the CS for Agriculture and Livestock docket , which was held by Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja.

Ex Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui, another close ally of former president Uhuru Kenyatta has been nominated for the Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has also been appointed the CS for Information, Communication and Digital Economy, that was held by Dr. Margaret Nyambura.

The changes come barely a week after the head of state met former president Uhuru Kenyatta at his Gatundu home.

During the visit, President Ruto took the opportunity to commend President Kenyatta for his remarkable statesmanship in overseeing the peaceful transfer of power after the 2022 general elections.

He also acknowledged the former president’s continued support for the country’s development and his goodwill towards fellow leaders.

“We appreciate the role President Kenyatta played in ensuring a smooth transition of power. His ongoing support has been invaluable to Kenya’s progress,” President Ruto said

Both leaders recognized the difficult global environment that has affected many countries, including Kenya.

They cited the disruptive impact of COVID-19, the ongoing war in Ukraine that has destabilized supply chains, and the resulting rise in commodity prices, particularly for fertilizers and wheat.

Earlier, daily newspapers like The Star and Nation had reported that part of the discussions between the duo was centered on political stability in Mt. Kenya region with Uhuru Kenyatta in picture being seen as catalyst for Gachagua’s influence in the region after the impeachiment.
