Speaking to Nyanza Review,Moses Okal a student from the institution confirmed that the school had been closed indefinitely for three weeks now with no clear explanation into what transpired.

“We have come to demand for the reopening of our institution,” Okal lamented.

The students are said to have sought for clarification on the issue which received no tangible information and feedback.

Police were seen trying to control the commotion with teargas to calm the furious students.

The Technical University of Kenya had suspended diploma and undergraduate examinations which had been scheduled to start on Monday, February 3-15 due to lecturer’s strike on January 14 protesting against delayed salaries.

In a memo to the students, three weeks ago , the school’s academic registrar Moses Wamalwa confirmed that the suspension had been occasioned by an ongoing strike by the teaching staff who are members of the Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (Kusu).

“Please note that the suspension takes effect immediately. Consequently, all diploma and undergraduate students are directed to vacate the University premises by 2.45 pm today Monday, February 3,2025,” the memo read.

In their strike notice to Vice Chancellor Prof Benedict Mutua, the lecturers said they would present written petitions to the National Assembly, ministries of Finance and Education.
