President Trump signed an executive order titled “Keeping men out women’s sports” yesterday on February 5, 2025, which explicitly prohibits biological men from participating in women’s sports, marking the end of an insane era of abuse perpetrated against young female athletes.
The National Girls and Women in Sports Day was observed with a mix of celebration and controversy as Trump signed the order. This move, intended to ensure fairness in women’s athletics has sparked a significant policy debate. While others applaud the decision for protecting the integrity of women’s sport, others have criticized it for undermining inclusivity.
The order affects educational institutions by potentially cutting off federal funding for non- compliance, which highlights, a coercion from the government towards enforcing sex-based sports segregation.
” We’re putting every school receiving tax payer dollars on notice that if you let men take over women’s sports teams or invade your locker rooms, you will be investigated for violations of Title IX and risk your federal funding.” Trump said.
The action is similar to policies that had earlier on been implemented by over 20 Republican-led states, leading to legal challenges under Title IX and equal protection laws.
Supporters of the order argue that it mantains competitive equity in women’s sports by preventing biological advantages that men might have due to differences in their physical structure like muscle mass, bone density and hormone levels.
However, critics view this ban as dicriminatory and are arguing that it violates the rights of transgender individuals and goes against the spirit of inclusivity and equality in sports.
Annabelle wilson, a 14- year old freshman who plays for the junior olympic team has been a victim to playing against transgender women. One of her encounters on the same was when she had to go against a tall and heavily muscled trans-woman, she recalls being petrified and that she ended up losing a match that she had really prepared for.
” When we raised complaints, people said that my family is transphobic and a set of sore losers, and said that maybe I was not good enough.” Annabelle said amidst tears
Charlie Baker, the president of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) issued a statement after trump signed the order saying that the NCAA Board of Governors is reviewing the executive order and will take necessary steps to align NCAA policy in the coming days, subject to further guidance from the administration.
“The Association will continue to help foster welcoming environments on campuses for all students-athletes. We stand ready to assist schools as they look for ways to support any student-athletes affected by changes in the policy.” He added
However, Americans threw shades at Charlie and said he is a coward and an incompetent leader because he had to wait for Trump to sign an order for him to fix the situation
Americans also recognized and commended activitists like Riley Gaines and Paula scanlan who have been in the frontline for years advocating for banning of men and transgender from women’s sports.
