Tesla reports a 13% decline in sales within the first three months of the year, compared to their last year’s figures
According to motors1.com, the highly coveted car brand which is also known for its high distribution of electric vehicles is facing a national backlash from investors and buyers after the brand’s CEO, Elon Musk embraced right-wing politics and was given a role in Trump’s administration.
There have been protests in the U.S and Europe staged at Tesla showrooms, which has contributed to a significant decline in sales.
Tesla reported delivery of 336,681 cars globally in January to March quarter this year, which is far below 387,000 cars delivered in the same period a year ago. This might just be the company’s biggest drop in history, selling 50,000 fewer cars.
This huge decline has been recorded despite several Tesla offers like deep discounts, zero financing and other incentives which shows that the results this year are likely to be a huge disappointment to investors.
Most investors at Tesla are complaining that Musk’s work at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has significantly contributed to Tesla’s sales decline because he has his efforts and attention elsewhere.
Tesla’s announcement over its dismal sales came a day after its auto industry competitors like Hyundai, Audi, Honda and Nissan announced a significant increase in their sales percentage which evidently shows which brands Tesla has lost its clients to.
A viral video footage on X platform showed a massive anti-Elon Musk and anti-Trump rally being held yesterday in Asheville NC. The protestors had signs filled with Nazi symbols and anti-immigrant slogans targeting Elon Musk and Tesla.
Also, a post on X platform on ‘protect Kamala Harris’ fan page reported that among the affluent figures who joined the ‘Tesla boycott’ is singer and actress Bette Midler, who recently sold her Tesla.
“No longer do I have to drive a symbol of racism, greed and ignorance! Life is suddenly so much better.” She said
“I guess Midler has no idea that selling a Tesla in secondary market has no effect on Tesla.” Netizens mocked Midler’s decision.
There has also been reports of Tesla cars being vandalized by protestors since Trump’s election, but despite all these, the brand still has big plans for its clients, like the introduction of Robo taxi in Austin, Texas and also, production of more affordable models.
