Siaya County Woman Representative aspirant Dr. Elizabeth Anyango is scheduled to open a third and fourth art center as part of her efforts to address the job crisis in the county.
Speaking to The Nyanza Review virtually from the United Kingdom, the philanthropist politician said her plans are aimed at helping the people of Siaya, especially the youth, who are economically disadvantaged due to a lack of job opportunities.
“The greatest challenge we’re facing right now is joblessness, and it’s a global issue. My goal is to address this in my home county by every possible means,” Dr. Anyango said.
The hopeful woman representative explained that her foundation will be opening a third art center in Alego Usonga Sub-county and a fourth one in Bondo Sub-county, with plans to reach the two remaining sub-counties by February next year.
In an earlier virtual address to her grassroots mobilizers on Friday, 15th November 2024, Elizabeth detailed that the art center in Alego Usonga will train youths in motor mechanics and welding, while the center in Bondo Sub-county will focus on computer studies, tailoring, and welding. Both centers are scheduled to open next month.
From Bondo, the foundation will move to Ugenya in January next year to open a fifth art center that will offer training in driving, tailoring, computer studies, and welding.
In February next year, the sixth and final art center will be opened in Ugunja, where youths will be trained in plumbing, tailoring, welding, and hairdressing.
The concept of the art center was first introduced in Akala, Gem Sub-county, in August this year, with a focus on welding, beauty therapy, and tailoring. The center is currently training over 100 youths from all the wards in Gem.
Rarieda Sub-county was the second beneficiary, with the establishment of an art center in Kalandini, where training in computer studies, welding, and beauty therapy is currently underway.
