Kiambu Senator Hon. Paul Karungo Thang’wa has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over an attack to former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua in Limuru yesterday.
The Senator who was also in attendance during the burial that ended in stampede, is required to appear before the detectives today in Nyeri at 10 am.
According to the notice, the police believe that the Senator has important information that will help spearhead investigations into this incident that left the rear window of former DP’s car broken, property with unknown value destroyed and several people with serious injuries.
” In the exercise of powers conferred to me by Section 52 (1) of the National Police Act No. 11A of 2011, I require you Senator Paul Karungo Thang’wa to appear before Regional Criminal Investigations Officer, Nyeri on 29/11/2024 at 10 AM. You are compelled to attend before RCIO on 29/11/2024 at 10 AM without fail,” read part of the letter.
Karungo, has, however slammed the summon, claiming that the police failed to meet them at the DCI Headquarters, along Kiambu road when they went to report the incident. He has also criticised the move to have him called for questioning in Nyeri for an incident that happened in Limuru.
“They refuse to meet us at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road but shamelessly summon us to Nyeri over an incident that occurred in Limuru,” uttered Karungo.
Nonetheless, the Senator has accepted to honour the summon, with assurance that they will not stop their course due to intimidations .
“This intimidation will neither intimidate nor silence us. See you in Nyeri tomorrow at 10 a.m.”
Karungo while speaking to the press at the DCI Headquarters yesterday evening after the brutal attack, termed it as an assassination attempt on Rigathi Gachagua’s life by the government.
“We came here at the DCI to demand a quick and swift investigation of what transpired today where an attempt on the life of Rigathi Gachagua was carried out by hired goons by the government. We truly believe it was a well-planned incident,” revealed the Senator.
He also announced the alleged abduction of former Limuru MP, Hon. Peter Mwathi, who has been reportedly missing.
“We also came here because we wanted to find the whereabouts of the former MP Peter Mwathi because he was abducted by men in Subaru,” confirmed Karungo.
This scary incident happened shortly after security officers attached to the former DP were withdrwan earlier this week.
While confirming the incident, Rigathi Gachagua noted that the decision to remove his security by the government was to leave him vulnerable to such kind of attacks.
“However it now looks like the decision to withdraw my security was to leave me exposed to the kind of attack we have witnessed today,” said Gachagua.
He condemned the act, and criticised the government for stooping so low to send goons to disrupt an event that was meant to pay last respect for a departed soul.
“This is very sad state of affairs and a major low for the state, who were clearly complicit in these actions. We just especially remember the family that had a loved one in a casket, who had to run to safety despite their profound grief,” mocked Gachagua.
He noted that despite the challenges they face, they will strongly stand with Kenyans who still need their services, even after impeachment.
“We will not be scared away from standing with Kenyans who need us to support them in their moments of need. We just expect such a terrible moment of shame will not be repeated.”
About one week ago, Gachagua had reported unmarked car monitoring his movements in and out of his residences, where he claimed that the government is still on his neck, depriving him of his peace.
