Seasoned human rights activist Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity has revealed that Kenya loses an estimated Kshs. 1 trillion annually to corruption, a staggering amount that cripples development and deepens poverty.
In a statement to the media on Monday 22, September 2025, Kinity said the country bleeds over Kshs. 2 billion daily, which translates to nearly one trillion shillings every year.
“It hurts me every day when I remember that over two billion shillings are lost daily to corruption,” he said, adding that the figures translate to almost one trillion shillings a year.
Kinity noted that it worries him more when he sees our youth suffering without jobs and Kenyan workers, including the KDF, surviving on meager salaries because of the heinous greed of leaders looting public resources.
He questioned how any nation in Africa could survive with such massive losses. “This is not only senseless but an absolute abnormality,” he said. “Do Kenyans ever visualize what one trillion shillings means to the nation? In one term of five years, we are losing about five trillion shillings, most of it borrowed money that Kenyans are forced to pay back.”
Kinity recalled that former President Uhuru Kenyatta once admitted the government was losing Sh2 billion daily to corruption, a statement he faulted for its casual delivery. “Uhuru said it as if reporting the weather, and he did nothing meaningful to stop it,” Kinity said, adding that the situation has likely worsened under the current administration.
He expressed outrage over the Ndabibi land dispute in Naivasha, where more than 140 elderly residents, some in their 90s, were forcibly evicted from a 5,000-acre farm.
“As if looting a trillion shillings every year is not enough, President William Ruto and Mr. Gicheru shamelessly grabbed a 5,000-acre farm from elderly men and women who have lived there since birth,” he said. “How do you evict citizens as old as 94 years from their ancestral homes and claim the land belongs to you? If this is normal, then nothing in this world is abnormal.”
The former contrasted Kenya’s situation with leadership in the United States, praising former President Donald Trump for prioritizing citizens’ welfare.
“Trump minded the welfare of Americans by cutting aid and restricting illegal entry into the US,” he said, adding that Kenya’s leaders do the opposite, looting aid and loans meant to help the poor.
He added that Trump invited him to his inauguration ceremony and renewed his appointment to the Presidential Advisory Board, RNC, USA, a recognition Kinity described as an affirmation of his global advocacy.
Kinity further argued that Trump was right to cut aid to countries like Kenya, where funds are routinely stolen.
“No sane American would celebrate seeing their aid stolen in such huge amounts. Those who demonstrate against Trump are ignorant of what happens to the money once it reaches Kenya. Had they known, they would not demonstrate at all.” Kinity said
He called on President Ruto to return the Ndabibi farm to the elderly residents and to release those arrested for alleged trespassing.
“He has no justification to take land from people who have depended on it their entire lives,” Kinity said. “If he fails to give it back, I will escalate the matter internationally, even to President Trump, who I am sure will extend his kindness to those elderly Kenyans.”
Kinity noted that Kenya’s hemorrhage of one trillion shillings annually is not just a financial disaster but a moral failure of leadership.
“Our youth, our workers, and our elderly deserve justice, not exploitation,” he said.
