The President during the much anticipated address, directed the Ministries of Transport and Energy to cancel the ongoing deals proposed by the Adani Group to take over the country’s infrastructure in the energy and aviation sectors.
He underscored that the ongoing deals with the Adani Group could not continue due to credible sources, that it is not pleasant.

“Based on new information provided by our investigative agencies and partner nations – that the procuring agencies within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA Expansion Public Private Partnership transaction, as well as the recently concluded KETRACO transmission line under Public Private Partnership contract, and immediately commence the process of onboarding alternative partners,” said Ruto.
The contract had proposed to renovate JKIA for a period 30 years for Ksh.260 billion and also provide Ksh.95 billion to develop the country’s transmission lines, all under the Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Also extending the warm reception of the President’s directive, Marakwet West MP, Hon. Timothy Kipchumba, appreciated the head of state for having listened to voices of Kenyans. He appended that those involved in the deal with Adani should be held accountable.
“For me, the highlight of the day was the Adani issue. I want to sincerely thank the President because he listened to Kenyans who have said that we do not associate ourselves with this Adani deal. Going forward, the question is this, this deal has been cancelled and there will be consequences for breach of the contract. Those who were involved in the irregularities leading to the cancellation of this deal, the law must take its course, they must be answerable to this country,” he said.
