Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has made it clear that it does not support a proposal to change the term limits for elected leaders in Kenya.
This statement was made by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna during a recent visit to Kisumu, where he met with Ker Odungi Randa, the Chairman of the Luo Council of Elders. Sifuna pointed out that the bill, which is being pushed by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, is not welcome and is unlikely to get any support in the Senate.
While in Kisumu, Sifuna called the proposed law a “waste of time” and reaffirmed ODM’s dedication to maintaining the current term limits set by the Constitution.
He raised concerns that changing these limits could harm the democratic process and diminish the trust that voters have in their leaders. ODM is firmly against any attempts to change the existing political rules that govern the country.
Sifuna’s comments come at a time when political tensions are rising, with different groups competing for power. The ODM’s position mirrors the feelings of other opposition parties, who see the bill as a potential danger to democracy in Kenya.
As the political situation develops, ODM’s leaders are working to gather support against any proposals that could harm the nation’s democratic values.
