The Nakuru County Government is strengthening collaborations with ICT stakeholders to equip young people with essential skills in telephony, big data transmission, and artificial intelligence (AI) to prepare them for the demands of an evolving digital economy.

During a recent visit to Lish AI Labs in the Nakuru Central Business District, County Chief Officer for Youth, Sports, and Talent Pastor Alex Maina lauded the institution’s efforts in empowering the youth. The lab, which operates 24/7, offers training and job placement programs focused on AI, software development, design, and machine learning.

“Lish AI Labs is setting the bar high by equipping our youth with critical skills needed to thrive in the digital space,” said Maina.

He added, “This aligns perfectly with H.E. Governor Susan Kihika’s vision to empower the next generation through technology.”

Currently, the lab trains and employs over 400 young people, while more than 6,000 have already benefited from its programs. Participants have secured jobs both locally and internationally, demonstrating the growing influence of the institution.

A representative from Lish AI Labs noted that the organization is committed to becoming a leading center for digital skills development.

“Our mission is to empower young people to embrace AI opportunities and contribute to a sustainable future,” the representative said.

Maina emphasized the importance of partnerships between the county and ICT institutions like Lish AI Labs to extend the reach of such initiatives and create lasting change.

“These collaborations are key to ensuring that young people in Nakuru remain competitive in a world driven by technology,” he stated.

Governor Kihika’s administration has prioritized digital initiatives to promote economic growth and tackle youth unemployment. The county aims to continue working with stakeholders in the ICT sector to build a digitally literate, future-ready workforce.
