Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP)Peter Salasya has called out National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangu’la for disrespecting first time and young Members of Parliament during debates.
Speaking during an interview, the first time lawmaker said the National Assembly Speaker treats them like children, which is very unfair.
“Speaker Wetangu’la sees us like his children, for us first timers, and we must say no. I’m not going allow anybody to disrespect me!” Salasya stated.
Salasya demanded that all MPs should be treated equally, as they are the Speaker’s primary employer. He also lamented that Wetangu’la also dismisses issues raised by young MPs.
“He also doesn’t regard issues raised by young MPs, even those they are calling veterans some of us flopped those veterans. The Speaker must respect MPs because we are his employer,” he added.
While defending himself after he was asked to apologize to the house, after he was reported my Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw’ah of live streaming the house proceedings, Salasya said he was idol, as after raising his hands close to one hour, he decided to keep himself busy.
“I raised my hand for one full hour to be given a chance to speak. I was idol, even a child keeps themselves busy when idol!” Salasya defended himself.
He also wished the African Union Chairperson (AUC), Raila Odinga well in the race, and asked him in case he losses, he should not join the opposition coalition.
“Dear Raila Odinga,we pray for your success, but if you falter, please leave Kenyans alone. Bondo tutakuwa tunaleta salamu tu,” he stated.
The outspoken Mp has in the recent days hit headlines after his head to head confrontation with President William Ruto, during his six day development tour in the Western region.
Salasya has not shun from calling out the Kenya Kwanza government, over failed promises and burdening Kenyans.
