Kisumu West Member of Parliament Rosa Buyu has expressed concerns over darkness in the constituency more so market centers.

The MP singled out Otonglo trading center in Central Kisumu location where she noted there was total darkness at night, a factor she blamed on rising insecurity cases in the area in the past few months.

Buyu who spoke during the Jamhuri Day celebration that was held at Wachara Mixed Secondary School in North Kisumu ward yesterday, said that lack of light has ended up causing the demise of innocent people in the affected areas.

In regards to this, she assured the residents of North Kisumu ward and Kisumu West constituency at large that she would consult with the ministry of energy to chart out a program that would eventually lead to the installation of streetlights or floodlight for that matter in strategic places in all the trading centres in the constituency so as to tackle the rampant insecurity matters in the constituency.

“Insecurity has been and still is a major threat to development in Kisumu West so there is urgent need to team up with the relevant department or ministry as well as my office to lay the strategies on how to address this burning issue once and for all so as to pave the way for progress that will change the livelihood of the people,” said Buyu.

She further promised to better lives of her people.

“I will utilize every opportunity at my disposal to ensure that the constituency is better lit than it had been,” she added.

The lawmaker acknowledged Kisumu West OCPD Mr Bernard Musyoki Ngungu for the effort he and his team of law enforcement officers have so far made in bringing tranquility in terms of security in the constituency.

“Thanks for the effort you’ve made to reduce insecurity incidents, but I would want to urge you to intensify patrols for the sake of the safety of our people and the business community at large she said.

Owing to the cries of the jobless youth in North Kisumu ward to the constituency office to empower them economically, the MP said she is going to set up a digital hub complete with a free Wi-Fi as well as computers at Nyahera Chief camp for the youth that will enable them to earn money.

“The digital hub to be set up at Nyahera Chief camp will empower the youth financially, so once it becomes operational ensure you make maximum use of the facility,” she said.
