Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has condemned the abduction of Billy Mwangi, who was held captive for 16 days before returning home on January 6, 2025. Speaking shortly after Mwangi’s reunion with his family, Mukunji described the ordeal as a violation of human dignity and called for urgent action to address such incidents.

“The young man is seriously traumatized. He was confined to a dark room, whipped, and given only one meal a day. This inhumane treatment cannot be tolerated,” Mukunji said. He emphasized that Mwangi’s suffering highlighted the need for stronger safeguards to protect citizens from such acts.

The MP pledged to push for legislative reforms to ensure swift government responses to abductions. “This cannot continue. We must review our laws to guarantee the safety of all Kenyans. Billy’s experience should be the last of its kind,” he stated.

Mukunji further criticized the motives behind Mwangi’s abduction, suggesting it was meant to instill fear among citizens. “Billy has not been charged with any crime, which shows this was an attempt to intimidate him and others. We will not allow fear or lawlessness to prevail,” he declared.

The MP vowed to stand firm against government overreach and unlawful tactics, asserting that leaders must defend justice and human rights. “We have emerged stronger, with a renewed commitment to fight for justice. As leaders, it is our duty to ensure such suffering never happens again,” he added.

Billy Mwangi, who was abducted on December 21, 2024, returned to his family early Monday morning, walking into their compound around 8 a.m. His father, Gerald Karicha, expressed immense relief, thanking God and everyone who supported them during the ordeal.

Mwangi was one of six young men abducted in December 2024 after posting critical comments about President William Ruto and the government on social media. While three others were also released, one victim, Gideon Kibet, remains missing. Mukunji reiterated his resolve to seek justice for all affected families.
