Mike Sonko Vows to Help Grace Njoki Get Justice Shortly after her Release

Grace Njoki who stormed Health CS Debrah Barasa’s briefing at Ministry of Health Offices, together with other patients from Kenyatta National Hospital disrupting the meeting over complaints of SHA system hitches, has been freed on a Sh10,000 cash bail after she was arrested yesteday.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who paid the cash bail, vowed to help her get justice.

Sonko who had teamed up with lawyers Omwanza for LSK, Senator Maanzo, family lawyer Johnstone Jnr, and Njiru Ndegwa, successfully facilitated the release of Grace Njoki by securing the bail at the Capital Hill Police Post where she was being held.

Njoki’s arrest sparked outcry from Kenyans across the country with other calling out for her release, prompting Sonko accompanied by lawyers and friends to intervene and facilitate her release.

“She was accused of causing disturbances by walking in on the Health CS. However, we have managed to secure her release,” Sonko said.

Njoki has claimed that she was mishandled by officers who arrested her alleging that the officers failed to inform her of the charges against her.

“They didn’t tell me why they were arresting me. Instead, they caused a commotion in the hospital where I was,” Njoki recounted.

Njoki, who suffers from a heart condition, described her experience as distressing and accused the authorities of disregarding her health issues during the arrest.

“I have a heart condition, but they didn’t care. They dragged me around and moved me through town, insisting I write a statement about something I didn’t understand,” she said.

The event, which took place amidst a chaotic atmosphere inside Afya House, rekindled public discussion on law enforcement tactics and freedom of expression.

Njoki who has now resorted to seeking justice for what she claims is a violation of her rights and is currently seeking advice from her legal team.

Sonko has expressed his commitment to ensuring justice for Njoki.

“May the Lord heal and protect her,” he added.
