Football Kenya Federation (FKF) in partnership with Odibets has today Monday, March 3, 2025 officially unveiled South Africa’s Benni McCarthy as the new Harambee Stars coach until 2027 in a 2-year deal.
In a ceremony held at Serena Hotel, Nairobi to unveil the awaited coach, Odibets highlighted its ongoing support for sports in Kenya through its OdiMtaani CSR initiatives.
The partner betting company has continued to play a major role in nurturing local talents and promoting sports across the country.
McCarthy’s appointment as the national team’s head coach marks a new and exciting chapter in Kenya’s football management.
The former South Africa’s Bafana Bafana Striker and Manchester United First -Term Coach Benni at the event,received gifts from Odibets General Manager Mariga as well as the FKF President Mohammed Hussein as a welcome gesture to the Kenya’s sports ecosystem.
The Bafana Bafana legend replaces Engin Firat who resigned as Kenya’s coach after the Harambee Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Owing to his appointment, McCarthy had surpassed other candidates who contested for the same position, such as former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Claude Makelele.
In an official statement by the Federation, President Hussein Mohammed confirmed McCarthy’s competency, revealing that he is set to bring extensive playing and coaching experience.
“After a rigorous selection process, we are confident that Benni McCarthy is the right person to lead our national team forward,his experience, vision, and commitment to developing Kenyan football align perfectly with our ambitions,” Hussein affirmed.
McCarthy will be joined by Vasili Manousakis as an assistant coach, Moeneeb Joseph’s as the goalkeeper’s coach, and Pilela Maposa as a performance analyst.
The team from South Africa is believed to bring wealth of expertise and will instil tactical discipline, structure, and a winning mentality among the Kenyan team, Harambee Stars.
Benni and his technical team are expected to revitalise the national team setup as Kenya prepares for upcoming matches.
