Maseno University is set to host the prestigious 13th East African University Games, scheduled to kick off on December 15, 2024.
The much-anticipated championship will officially commence with an opening ceremony presided over by the chairperson of the Federation of East African University Sports (FEAUS), accompanied by a delegation from member states across East Africa.
Speaking during a press briefing on the university’s preparedness, Madam Joan Tutor, Head of the Games Department at Maseno University, assured participants of a serene and well-organized sports environment. “We are ready for the event. Everything is in place and we are looking forward to a successful competition.” Joan said.
The games will feature tough competition, with Maseno University set to battle their fierce rivals Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in football.
Several universities from neighboring countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and others are expected to participate.
Participants will compete in a wide range of sports, including rugby, football, handball, netball, swimming, athletics and various indoor games.
Over 30 universities across East Africa are expected to showcase their prowess in the spirit of sportsmanship.
The 12th East African University Games were held from December 16–21, 2022, at Ndejje University in Luweero, Uganda. During the event, Ugandan universities dominated, with Ndejje University clinching the overall title.
The East African University Games, organized biennially by FEAUS, bring together universities from 12 countries across Eastern Africa, fostering unity and competition through sports.
