Malaika Music Band has relieved its long-time band manager, Pius Omudho, from transacting on its behalf.
Taking to his official Facebook page on Monday, December 9, 2024, celebrated Ohangla artist Prince Indah, who also serves as the bandleader of Malaika Music Band, issued a public notice announcing the decision.
Indah stated that while Mr. Omudho will remain part of the band’s management team, he will no longer conduct any transactions on behalf of the band in any capacity.
“We wish to inform the public that, effective immediately, Pius Omudho will no longer conduct any transactions on behalf of Malaika Music in any capacity; however, he shall represent and remain part of Malaika Music’s management team,” read part of the public notice.
The bandleader further explained that the decision was aligned with recent updates to the company’s internal policies, which are designed to better align with operational standards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Indah, popularly known as Janabi, has instead appointed Soepenburg Bosinga to handle all business operations for the company.
The news came as a surprise, with fans expressing mixed reactions about what might have transpired between the duo, who have worked closely since the Ohangla maestro founded the band in 2016.
The hashtag #TichKodLuorEmakeloMOR—loosely translated as “working with respect is what leads to happiness”—suggests that the urgent restructuring of managerial roles may have stemmed from internal conflicts.
Several Ohangla fans have taken to social media to share their reactions to the development.
Adede Owalla, for instance, linked the decision to Pius Omudho’s political aspirations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“For those who don’t know, Pius Omudho is running for a political seat in Siaya County and needs time to strategize and build his popularity back home. Additionally, he has been busy managing the Pius Omudho Foundation, a charitable organization he founded a few years ago. I wish him well in his future endeavors, and I also wish Janabi and his team well. Kama iluokri ok ituoye NB: I’m not a fan of Indah ,” posted Owalla.
Meanwhile, a social media user named John expressed disappointment over the public announcement, given Omudho’s instrumental role in Indah’s music career.
“This guy has done his best in your journey to success. It’s very unfortunate that you’re advertising his removal from management on these streets… very unfortunate indeed,” said John.
Social media sensation Zack Opondo warned Prince Indah against posting such updates publicly, suggesting that an internal memo would have been more appropriate.
“Careful, son, careful. An internal memo would be better,” cautioned Zack Opondo.
Another fan praised Prince Indah for sidelining Omudho in the band’s business transactions, describing Omudho as egocentric.
“I totally agree with you, Prince Indah. Some of us are also employers, and when your best employee thinks he’s bigger than the company, then this is the decision to make,” they stated.
Pius Omudho publicly declared his interest in the North Alego Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) position and has been running several charitable initiatives through his foundation, K’Omudho, across different villages in North Alego.
Attempts by The Nyanza Review to contact Pius Omudho for comments on the matter were futile. By the time of publishing this story, he had not responded to questions regarding the development.
