The residents of Korando A village in Korando Sub location, Kisumu West constituency, residing alongside River Saka, closer to the molasses plant at Otonglo, are desperately appealing to the local administration to move with speed and build a footbridge over the river ahead of the impending rains.

The irate villagers led by the village elder Daudi Kose told The Nyanza Review  that their lives are at risk especially during the rains when the river overflows spilling its waters within the nearby homesteads.

The residents further complained that lack of a footbridge across the seasonal river has always put the lives of the students who normally pass through the deep gully while going to their respective schools at a greater risk.

“We have made several appeals to our area Member of the County Assembly Zack Okoyo to allocate some funds out of Central Kisumu Ward development fund Kitty but our desperate appeals have fallen on deaf ears,” said the village elder.

However, Kose strongly opposed suggestions by a section of the villagers that the proposed foot bridge be constructed using wooden planks emphasizing that it won’t last longer since the place has a lot of termites that would eat up the wooden planks hence weakening the footbridge.

”As a community, we strongly recommend that the footbridge be made using metals that would ensure the safety of the users,” he said.

When The Nyanza Review tried to reach the area Member of the County Assembly for comment over the issue, he failed to respond to calls despite several attempts.
