For Esther Akoth, a mother of three from Manyatta in Kisumu County, the arrival of her baby girl on New Year’s Day was a profound blessing she likens to a divine gift.
Akoth delivered her daughter at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), marking a joyful start to 2025 for her and her family.
The newborn was one of five babies born at the hospital on January 1, a moment that brought immense joy and renewed hope to Akoth.
Speaking to The Nyanza Review at the health facility on January 7, before heading home, the ecstatic mother described the birth of her daughter as an unparalleled blessing.
“My baby girl is the most special gift I could have received this New Year, and I thank God for this blessing.” She shared.
Her happiness came just days after the hospital celebrated the arrival of 13 babies born on Christmas Day, a milestone that had already uplifted the spirits of staff and families alike.
The atmosphere at JOOTRH was one of pure joy as relatives of the newborns and hospital staff exchanged cheerful smiles, celebrating the safe arrivals.
Akoth further expressed heartfelt appreciation for the hospital’s nurses and midwives, who went beyond to ensure her safe delivery through a cesarean section.
“Although the delivery was painful, I am grateful for the care I received, which ensured both my safety and my baby’s,” Akoth said.
